Germany voted: CDU / CSU and SPD on par

Berlin. – Polling stations in Germany closed at 6 pm. As things currently stand, the CDU / CSU and SPD have 25 percent of the vote. In the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, the candidate from the strongest party has always also become chancellor.

The Greens with their chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock received 15 percent. 11 percent went to the FDP, 11 percent to the AfD and 5 percent to Die Linke (The Left). None of the remaining parties won more than 5 percent of the vote, which is the minimum percentage required to obtain seats in parliament. These voting percentages are projections based on those electoral districts where counting has finished.
